1913-1995


The Structure




December 12, 1913
Born in the village of Zhelykhiv Velykyi (currently Velykosilky, Kamianka-Buzka district, Lviv region) into a peasant’s family. Finished six grades at the village school.

1926 – 1931
Studied in the Redemptorist minor seminary in Lviv.

1931
Joined the Redemptorist monastery, finishing his novitiate in Holosko.

September 15, 1932
Made his first monastic vows.

1932 –1937
Studied in Belgium at the Universities of Louvain (1932 – 1936) and Voplato (1936 –1937).

August 28, 1935
Made his perpetual monastic vows while a student.

July 25, 1937
Ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Mykola (Charnetskyi) in the city of Louvain, Belgium.

1937 – 1939
Taught history and Polish language at the minor seminary in Lviv.

September 1939
After the first deployment of Soviet troops, the minor seminary was closed down and the
Redemptorists were forced to leave the monastery.

1939 – 1941
Worked as senior priest in the village of Tiahliv (Sokal district, Lviv region).

1942 – 1946
Worked as a general steward at the restored minor seminary.

1948
After the monastery in Holosko was destroyed, he was deported with other Redemptorists to the Studite monastery in the village of Univ.

1950
After the liquidation of the Univ Monastery, he began to work in the underground.

1950 – 1958
Lived in his native village of Velykosilky. Took care of the community of Sisters of St. Josaphat in Busk and the Josephite community in Lviv. Kept in touch with other Redemptorist priests.

1950 – 1990
Served as Redemptorist abbot. Took care of the Basilian Sisters and the Sisters of St. Josaphat; conducted pastoral activities among Greek Catholic parishioners in Lviv and Zymna Voda.
Remained under constant KGB surveillance.
His house was searched seven times. After one such search some religious literature was confiscated.

1958 – 1973
Worked as a civil servant in the Lviv City Sanitary Epidemiological Station.

February 23, 1985
Ordained as an auxiliary bishop by Bishop Volodymyr (Sterniuk) in Lviv.

1988 – 1989
Worked with other bishops in the underground, participated in trips to Moscow aimed at legalizing the Greek Catholic Church.

October 26, 1995
Died.
