	Student Organizations in the 1920s and 1930s

In 1885, Metropolitan Sylvestr Sembratovych founded the fellowship Presentation of the Blessed Virgin.

In 1931, the fellowship started a charitable section. Its aim was to help seminarians and students from other institutions who needed financial aid. The Missionary Committee was another section of the fellowship. The committee assisted missionaries in different countries of Europe and America by sending packages of books and magazines.

On 25 March 1926, the Athenaeum, which functioned in the Theological Academy and in Holy Spirit Seminary, developed into a full-fledged fellowship with its own statutes. The fellowship, the M. Shashkevytch Athenaeum of Ukrainian Theology Students, convened its first constituent assembly in Lviv. During its existence the Athenaeum organized the work of a literature section, a publishing circle, a musical group, a section called “New Life,” Plast (Ukrainian scouts), a cooperative “Liberation,” a charitable section, a section of “Alma Mater” supporters, an agricultural and weaving section, and others. For several years the Athenaeum organized various practical courses for its members as well as literary and musical soirees.

In 1926, the second fellowship, a cooperative called “Liberation,” was founded. Its aim was to acquaint its members with the idea of cooperation and cooperative business. The fellowship organized courses in bookkeeping and was involved in publishing business. In 1929/1930, it also founded a savings bank.

Student Organizations of the Lviv Seminary of the Holy Spirit:

• In 1992, the fellowship Presentation of the Blessed Virgin resumed activity with Fr. Roman Mirchuk being its first spiritual leader. The renewed fellowship continued work in two traditional directions: charity and missionary work.
  
  
• In 1994, the fellowship Ephata was founded at Holy Spirit Seminary. It aims at interreligious dialogue and finding ways for reconciliation between Christian churches. The spiritual leader of the fellowship is Fr. Volodymyr Pentsak.
  
  
• Another section, called Dolnytskyi Studies, was founded in 2001. It collects materials and testimonies about the righteous life and activities of Fr. Izydor Dolnytskyi in order to present them for the process of beatification. Fr. Dr. Sviatoslav Shevchuk is the spiritual leader.

• Charitable Center “Vidlunnia” (“Echoes”): organizes various charitable events)
  
• St. Luke Center of Sacred Art: unites students who are interested in the history and current state of Ukrainian and world sacred art

• Bible Study Group: studies the Bible on the basis of the three primary sources of Christian faith, the Bible, patristic literature and the liturgy
