Course objective
Course objective is to help theologians acquire skills of critical analysis when processing different types of primary and secondary historical sources as well as acquaint the students with the methodology of oral history and its practical application.



Scope of the course
The course is taught to 4th year students majoring in history and philology at the general department and 5th year students at the seminary department (The Seminary of the Holy Spirit in Rudno). It is a 30-hour course, 22 academic hours of which are allocated for lectures and 8 for individual work. The lectures are subdivided into lectures (20 hours) and practical classes (2 hours).



Teaching methodology
Profound knowledge about the Greek Catholic Church in the underground; different aspects of life of the underground Church; punitive and repressive system of GULAG along with practical application of skills during interviews and writing a research paper constitutes the methodological basis of the syllabus.



Evaluation
  1. 25 % interview
  2. 50 % research paper
  3. 20% two tests
  4. 5% seminar



The Kurylas Family Contest 2002

The Kurylas Family Contest (2002) was held at the scholarly workshop ”An Oral History of UGCC in the Underground”. 76 student participated in it that time. Materials submitted to the ICH archive after the competition were: 100 interviews, 72 documents, 206 photographs, 4 museum exhibits and two collections.

The Institute chose the 15 best interviews, from which three winners were selected in the nomination for "the best interview":
