Fr. Dr. Ivan Dacko


In February 1997 then Auxiliary Bishop Lubomyr Husar gave Fr. Dacko responsibility for the external relations of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. He is also a member of the Synodal Commission on Theological Education. In April 2000 he became president of the International Bureau on Education and Development of the Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine.

Born in 1947 in Welbert (Germany), from 1963 to 1967 he studied at the Ukrainian Papal College of Saint Josaphat in Rome and later at the Papal Urbanian University. In 1965 he received his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and in 1967 his bachelor’s in Theology. In 1970 he received his master’s degree in Theology; the theme of his work was Metropolitan Petro Mohyla in Light of History and Dogma. In 1974 Fr. Dacko defended his doctoral thesis in Theology; he majored in Dogmatics and took electives in History. The title of his thesis is Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky: A Rediscoverer of Traditional Eastern Ecclesiology and Ecumenism.
