Born on April 18, 1946 in Lodz (Poland), he received his masters degree in Classical Philology in 1970 at Warsaw University and defended his thesis in 1976. The title of his thesis was George Titsinii: Humanist and Diplomat.
Jerzy Akser is currently a professor at the Institute of Classical Philology of Warsaw University and at the Academy of Theatrical Arts in Warsaw. He is the founding director of the Center for the Study of the Classical Tradition in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe at Warsaw University (since 1992). In 1993 he was appointed director of Interdisciplinary Individual Humanities Studies at Warsaw University.
Since 1996 he has been the organizer and co-head of the International School of the Humanities of Central-Eastern Europe. He is an expert on Rhetoric, Ciceronian studies, Neoplatonics (Epistolography and Historical Sources) and the Classical Tradition in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe. He is the author of over 200 publications.
