(f) Sofiia Senyk


Currently a professor of Church History at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (POI) in Rome, she was born in Brody (Lviv region) in 1943. In 1959 she moved to the USA and later received a master’s degree in Germanic Studies from the University of Chicago and entered religious life. In 1979 she defended her doctoral thesis at the POI, published under the title Women’s Monasteries in Ukraine and Belorussia to the Period of Suppression. She is the author of numerous monographs, including The History of the Church in Ukraine (its first volume is being translated into Ukrainian by the Institute of Church History of the Lviv Theological Academy). Prof.Senyk also spoke at the first and sixth Brest Lectures.
