Doctor of History, professor, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) (1992), director of the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of NASU in Lviv, Secretary of the NASU branch office, member of the international editorial board of the Harvard Library of Ancient Ukrainian Literature.
His research legacy includes the catalogue Memorials of Book Art in Ukraine (with Y. Zapasko); Brotherhoods and their Role in the Development of Ukrainian Culture in the 16th to 18th Centuries; Historical Sources of Ukrainian Culture during the Epoch of Feudalism of the 16th to 18th Centuries; research on Yurii Drohobych, Ivan Fedoriv, M. Grueneweg.
