Aufbruch Research Program (1996-2000)
Initiated by Paul Zulehner, professor at the University of Vienna and director of the Pastorales Forum, the Aufbruch research program has been analyzing the life of the Catholic Church in ten formerly communist lands from historical, sociological, and pastoral-theological points of view .

The goal of Aufbruch is to gather reliable data for the hierarchy, theologians, ecumenists, pastors, and educators formulating and implementing the Church’s pastoral program. In each of the countries concise monographs are being prepared on fifteen set topics making it possible to compare and contrast the life of the Church in the different lands.

The ICH is responsible for coordinating the research and writing of the monographs for Ukraine.

Besides the individual country monographs, Aufbruch is publishing the analysis of quantitative sociological surveys conducted in each of the countries and general synthetic sociological and pastoral evaluations for the whole of East Central Europe.
